Technology: A growing dependence

Hello everyone,

Today I would like to talk about this growing dependence called Technology…

We are all guilty of it and I am not the greatest example myself and that is why I am writing this post. Reminding myself to step away from my phone once in a while.

I realized when I broke my phone a few months ago, how dependent I was of it. It was almost like a part of myself was missing and I felt insecure because i didn’t have my phone in case something happened.

When you step back a little, you realize that this is kind of an excuse. Technology made us ignorant and independent to each other. When you think of it, we are slowly losing the sense of community. We are so focused on our phones and social medias that we are losing touch of the people surrounding us.

Yes, it is useful and probably easier having your phone with you, but if you get in the situation you don’t have it with you, it is not the end of the world. There will always have someone to help you anywhere you go, unless you are going in the wilderness by yourself, then this is pretty much self-inflicted and your fault. I wouldn’t recommend.

How much time do we lose looking at our phone and looking at our social media sites?
Have you taken into consideration of how much free time to do something else you’d have if you reduced the amount of time spent on the internet? A lot!

How can we fix that problem?


I would say creating a new habit. Make a set time to look at and stay with it. Leave your phone away from your field of vision so you don’t get tempted. Take off the notifications from your social media apps.

Find activities that you like doing that keeps you busy. Maybe you like drawing, painting, play music, go out with friends, go to the gym… These can be relaxing and good for your state of mind as well as being therapeutic.

These are just a few example I have, but there is tons more!

I am sure I am not the only one who do this, but I always looks at my phone before bed and I always complain I am tired. I wonder why? Sometimes I could be 15 to 30 mins on it if not more. Can you imagine how much more sleep we could get?

Join me in trying to reduce time on technologies. Not only you’d have more time for other activities, but it could help with our overall health.
